Mitchell Park Domes logo

Natural diversity is what Milwaukee’s Mitchell Park Domes are all about - thousands of plants represent diverse geographies and cultures from across the world, all condensed into a single, unique barrio (neighborhood) in Milwaukee - a living, breathing part of the city’s cultural landscape. This year's train show celebrates that diversity, our barrio, and surrounding communities.

Come with us on a ride through our barrio, as we honor our home park and the deep roots of the Latinx communities within Milwaukee. Model trails on 700 feet of track will pass by scenes from our barrio, including Mitchell Street, Clarke Square, Silver City, the Menomonee Valley, Walker’s Point, Kosciusko Park, and of course, Mitchell Park. To fit the miniature trains, micro sized plants will include miniature azaleas, dwarf evergreens, black cherry petunias, topiaries and more.

Barrio Train also showcases the artistic talents of our Latinx community, you'll see examples of 'Ojo de Dios' crafts, ceramics from Alejandra Gonzales and macrame from Tania Espinoza. Limited edition items and posters will also be available to purchase in the gift shop.

After exploring our miniature barrio, take a walk in the real thing to continue the adventure - the Mitchell Street library are hosting a Barrio Train themed display and Newline Community Cafe are offering a limited edition 'Latte del barrio' - an horchata latte. Historic Milwaukee, Inc. has donated posters representing the different barrios around the Domes (you'll see them on the train station inside the Floral Dome). Walker’s Point Center for the Arts have also donated posters in English and Spanish on transportation safety in the neighborhood.

Barrio Train is open Wednesday to Sunday until April 2. 'Sticker Wednesdays' sponsored by El Rey Family Stores will be held throughout the entire run of the train show (or until we run our of stickers), and Late Night Thursdays in February include light shows in the floral dome from 5-8pm.
